Today was the New York City marathon - one of the biggest marathons in the world. About 38,000 people sign up to run 26.2 miles that wind through all five boroughs in New York City. They start in Staten Island and cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn along 4th Avenue. When the reach mile 7, they run right in front of my house!
Here you can see the elite women running. That's Paula Radcliffe leading Gete Wami. They stayed #1 and #2 throughout the entire race. Paula won the race after more than a two year break from running marathons AND after having a baby nine months ago. Can you believe it? Mommy's no where near being in shape to run a marathon again. AND, Paula's baby girl can walk at 9 months. I guess athletic ability runs in the family. Oh, and on the men's side, Martin Lel won.
After we watched the elite runners go by, we stood and cheered for the rest of the runners. It was a lot of fun to see all the people run by. There were so many people out cheering and offering support. It was pretty inspiring. Daddy's friend Patricia came over to cheer on her friend. Mommy and Daddy said that they usually are out here to cheer for Auntie Tracy but she couldn't run this year. Maybe I'll run with her someday.
