TGIF

It's Friday and you know what that means - Mommies and Babies lunch. Pretty much every Friday, Mommy and I have a lunch date with friends in the neighborhood. I get to play with my friends and Mommy gets to catch up with hers. It's lots of fun. Our play dates are much different from just a few short months ago. Then, all the babies would be happy to sit or snooze in the their stroller or carrier or else lie quietly on the ground. These days it's a mass of babies in motion! Everyone is crawling, rolling and scooting around the room, attempting to "play" with each other and stealing each other's toys.

Since it's Friday, November 30th, it's also the end of NaBloPoMo. It sure was hard work to think of something to write about every day! I hope that you all have enjoyed a month of Jasper Henry blog postings as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I will leave you with one last picture. I kind of look like the squid, huh?

Let me explain

So I've received some interesting - some might even say snide - remarks about my latest outfits. Some have said that I have some funky clothing combinations going on. While this might be cute when I'm actually old enough to pick my own outfits, right now, I am at the mercy of my Mother and Father so let me explain...

What you see me wearing is my fleece sleeper (because we all love fleece) and a vest that Ah-Boo bought for me in Hong Kong. This is how I look in the morning after I wake up. Since it's getting colder, Mommy and Daddy make me wear the vest after I wake up so that I don't catch a cold. While most of the vests are funny looking and don't really match my clothes, they do the job and keep me toasty on those frosty mornings. Eventually, I do get changed and put on some normal looking street clothes.

I think I'm stuck...

While I might not be crawling, I sure am getting really good at rolling around on the floor. I can roll all around the living room floor and around obstacles to explore new and fun places. I find that I can just as easily get to where I want to go by rolling so why should I bother with crawling?

Except that sometimes, I kind of get stuck. My big head is just big enough to wedge underneath the couch or under the TV console. Sometimes I even manage to roll all the way under the couch. But when I try to move again, I get stuck. The good news is that I'm getting better at shimmying my way out.

(Yes, I'm wearing that silly yellow ducky vest again. It's cold out! It's actually hiding a very cute T-shirt. Mommy should have thought about that before snapping away the pictures.)

Cheerios

At first, I thought that this was just a variation on the new game that Mommy and I have been playing - the game where I, Jasper, pick things up to play with and then drop them on the floor so that Mommy will pick it up. But it wasn't a game and I wasn't quite sure what Mommy and Daddy wanted me to do with this little brownish circle. It's a lot smaller than the toys that Mommy usually lets me play with i.e. something that I could try to eat and swallow. But, for the first time, I didn't want to put it in my mouth. I'll let you judge my reaction for yourself. I think that I need to work on my pincer grasp though.

Graduating to the big piano

After displaying my talent for the piano, Mommy let me play her big piano at home. While it might seem like it's too big for me, it's actually the perfect size for me. I can sit up all by myself on the bench and the keys are just the right height. There are so many more keys on this piano than on Samuel's red piano. I like sticking to the keys right around middle C though. I'm concentrating very hard on composing my next masterpiece.

After I played for a little while, I wanted to play a duet with Mommy. She showed me how to play chopsticks so that we could play it in a round. But I don't like playing such structured pieces. I prefer to improvise.

Whenever Mommy's not looking, I still like to nibble on the keys. That ivory just tastes so yummy!

Walking around Brooklyn

Mommy, Daddy and I went for a nice long walk around the neighborhood today. It was much nicer out than we expected but I still had to bundle up. I made Mommy carry me because I'm not so into my stroller these days. We walked from our house in Park Slope, across the Gowanus Canal over to Smith Street in Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill. Mommy likes walking along Smith Street and looking at all the shops.

Here we are crossing the Gowanus Canal on our way home at dusk. It's a little fuzzy but you can see the boats in the canal. Don't I look cute in my new winter hat? It accentuates my cheeks, no? It closes around my chin which is quite convenient for keeping my sucker in place.

Rubbing Daddy's Head

I like to rub my Daddy's head. I find it very calming and relaxing, especially when I'm cranky or having a bad day. Plus it's the only thing that soothes me when I don't feel when or when my gums really hurt from teething. Go figure. But I just rub in circles - back and forth, back and forth - and instantly a state of Zen comes over me.

Sometimes I like to beep him on his nose too.

Thanksgiving

I had a great time on my first Thanksgiving! First of all, I got to spend time with Babcia and Dziadek at their house:

And of course, since I was at Babcia and Dziadek's, I also got to spend more time with my new best friend, Saba. I love playing with Saba now that we're getting to know each other so much better - even though she is three times my size, she is so gentle with me that I can pet her as much as I want!

And, of course, I got to have my first Thanksgiving dinner! What did I have, you ask? Well, obviously, all the traditional things, like turkey and sweet potatoes -

The turkey was my favorite - I even had seconds.

Of course, when Mommy told me that we'd be having a "Butterball" for Thanksgiving dinner, I didn't think this was what she meant...

I have so much to be thankful for on my first Thanksgiving - family and friends and all the people who love me, my health, a roof over my head, yummy food - but most of all, I'm thankful that I'm not a turkey!

Fashion sense

Now that I can wear "real" clothes, not just onesies, I'm trying to develop my own fashion sense... though Mommy says that unfortunately Daddy's lack of fashion sense seems to be rubbing off on me...

But I don't care - I call it "seasonal chic."

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Date with Beatrice

Today I had a date with Beatrice - her Mommy brought her over to our house so I could show her around and we could play.

Isn't Beatrice soooooooooo cute?!

Bright and early tomorrow morning, we're off to Dziadek and Babcia's house for Thanksgiving - can't wait to have my first taste of turkey!

No Voice, No Blog

Today, I lost my voice. No really, I literally lost my voice. Not my figurative voice as in I've lost my inspiration and I don't know what to write about. I bet you didn't know that little babies could lose their voices but I did. I guess it's this lingering cold that I've been fighting. I sound kind of funny when I do try to talk, whine, cry or try to get Mommy and Daddy's attention - like a squeaky little mouse.

So, since I don't have a voice, I can't tell Mommy what to write about so you're out of luck today. Instead, to keep you all entertained for the time being, I've posted a video of me playing the piano from Saturday. You can check out my emerging composition skills and musical talent. I've been trying to post this video for the last couple of days but blogger wasn't cooperating but now it is. Hopefully, my voice will return tomorrow and you will have a new installment of Jasper's adventures.

Sitting around

Today, I did a lot of sitting around. First, I sat on the kitchen floor in the morning while waiting for Daddy to make his tea. I'm gnawing on one of my favorite chew toys - a Chinese soup spoon. Does wonders for the sore gums.

Then, later in the afternoon, I sat around in the grocery cart while Mommy and Daddy went grocery shopping at Whole Foods. I waited in the cheese department while they browsed.

Finally, I got to lounge around in my very own chair. It's much more comfy to sit in a chair than to sit on the ground. Plus it does wonders for my posture. Don't I look like a big boy now?

Busy Busy Saturday

Today was a very busy day. First, I had swim class in the morning. For the past three weeks, Mommy and Daddy have been taking me to swim class at the Prospect Park YMCA. It's fun. We splash around in the pool and sing songs. As you know, I enjoy being in the water except that in this class, the teacher is actually trying to teach us things like how to kick with our legs, how to swim with our arms and how to blow bubbles in the water. Today, I even got dunked under the water! I didn't like it so much. I don't know about you but I just enjoy floating around on my back and belly and relaxing. Maybe I won't be an Olympic swimmer after all?

Later in the afternoon, I went over to my friend Samuel's house to help celebrate his 1st birthday. It was lots of fun. I got to meet some new friends and play with lots of new toys. Since Samuel is 4 months older than me, he has lots of pretty cool toys - not just the stuff that you can chew on.

One of my favorite toys was the big green exercise ball. I got to bounce on it and roll around on it on my belly. It was loads of fun. I could feel my cheeks bouncing up and down too!

The best though was the mini piano. I know that Mommy has a real grown-up piano at home but it's just a bit too big for me. This one was just my size. I liked to bang on the keys for a bit, then nibble on them a little bit, then bang on them again. Maybe if I'm not going to be a swimmer I can be a pianist!

Finally, we had to go home because it was getting late and I was getting tired and hungry. It's starting to get a bit chilly here in New York City so I had to bundle up. Can you see me under all my layers?

Meeting the fans

Today Mommy and I took a late afternoon trip into Manhattan. Mommy said that she needed to get out of the house and the neighborhood and I told her that I wanted to go see the underground trains again. But little did I know that Mommy had a treat for me. I had the opportunity to meet two of my biggest fans - Auntie Chris and Auntie Linda. They are Mommy's friends from work and are avid readers of my blog. It was nice to have the chance to connect with my readers in person, to get to know what their interests are and to answer their questions about my latest adventures.

(Excuse the pictures. They are a little fuzzy because we had to take them with Mommy's camera phone since she forgot her real camera at home. Silly Mommy.)

Here I am with Auntie Chris. She's the one that got me the Baby Einstein so I had to thank her profusely for helping to make my nebulizer experience much better. I had lots of fun playing on her lap.

Here I am with Auntie Linda. She has the best curly hair ever. I really enjoyed tugging at it and watching it spring back. She didn't seem to mind that I kept grabbing at her hair, her scarf...She let me sit on the table and then rocked it back and forth so that it was like a roller coaster ride! I can't wait to play with both Aunties again soon!

A shelf of one's own

You may have noticed in yesterday's blog that I now have my very own shelf in the living room. It has all of my toys nicely arranged so that I can see them all. So much better than the old shopping bag that Mommy and Daddy have been hiding my toys in. But I also have a sneaking suspicion that Mommy and Daddy are trying to encourage me to "crawl" by displaying such enticing toys just out of my reach.

Nebulizer Shmebulizer

This whole nebulizer thing isn't so bad after all. It's actually a MAGIC machine. It's pretty neat. Mommy and Daddy put the mask on my face, turn the machine on and voila, the TV turns on too! It plays all these bright and color images, puppets and moving toys all to the tune of Beethoven and Mozart. It's something called Baby Einstein. Thanks Auntie Chris for getting me this DVD!

Look how hard I'm concentrating. I hardly even notice the mask or the medicine that I'm inhaling. It's fascinating and mesmerizing. I can't quite take my eyes off the screen. I want to be a little Baby Einstein!! Although I heard Daddy saying something in the background how I'm losing brain cells by the minute. Huh?
