Liberty Science Center

You might have noticed that lately Jasper and I have been on a streak of visiting attractions near our home that we've never been to for one reason or another, like the Central Park carousel or Floyd Bennett Field. You might also have noticed that lately we've been into science museums, like the Exploratorium in San Francisco or the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Finally, the more observant among you might have noticed that when we do visit a science museum, our top priority is to explore and try out as many of the exhibits as possible in the time we have.

Well, in a delightful packaging of a morning, all three of these recent trends came together when we visited the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City over the weekend. You see, the Liberty Science Center is a great big science museum located off the New Jersey Turnpike just outside New York City. We've been passing by it for years as we went back and forth to Dziadek and Babcia's house, but somehow it never occurred to us to stop in. 

But today, Mommy and Daddy surprised us with a special trip, primarily to get out of the house on a blustery winter morning when no outdoor activities were really possible. And boy, were we glad they chose this as our destination - there were exhibits galore for us to explore, and explore and experiment we did, like learning about pulleys at the ball exhibit -

Assembling our own race-cars -

Painting with water -

Making rice -

Observing various animals, reptiles and fish -

Building with blocks - 

Learning about the plumbing in our houses -

(Though perhaps Jasper tried to take this particular experiment a bit too far...)

Getting into more veins and arteries -

Giving endoscopy a try -

Making art-patterns with magnetic shapes -

And enjoying views of lower Manhattan, including the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site, through the museum's windows (that's  One World Trade Center, formerly known as "Freedom Tower", which will be the tallest building in New York City once completed, rising on the left.)

I really liked the Liberty Science Center, and hope we get to come back!
